Old Photo Organization: Identifying People, Evidence, and Family Values Records
First clarify who and what is depicted in the photo, then discuss the family values it carries.

Keep Originals and Organized Copies Separate
Create an ID number for each photo, keep an uncropped, unrestored scanned copy, and record any inscriptions on the back. The restored version is for reading, while the original scan is for verification; distinguish different versions by file name to avoid overwriting the only original.
Write Down Confirmed Information First
Start with the people’s positions, the shooting location, the possible time, and the person who provided the photo. For people who cannot be identified, write “identity pending verification”; record time only to the level of precision supported by evidence. Do not infer an exact year from clothing or the mood of the image.
Example: Turn General Praise into Specific Description
Fictional demonstration: “The family was very hardworking and frugal” lacks verifiable details. It can be revised to: “According to the narrator’s recollection, the wooden box in the photo was later converted into a desk; the photo itself only confirms the presence of the wooden box. The account of the conversion comes from oral narration and still awaits additions from other family members.” Keeping observation and narration separate makes the story more credible.
Have Family Members Identify Photos Separately Before Combining the Results
Give the same photo to different family members and ask them to explain it separately, without rushing to unify the answers. When names, places, or times conflict, keep both versions, record who provided them and when, and wait for inscriptions on the back, family letters, or other photos to provide supporting evidence.
